Lee Monroe was born in Atlanta, Georgia. At the age of 5 he moved to Tallahassee, Florida where he grew up. In 1982 he moved to Orlando, where he currently resides.
Lee Monroe - Music Copyist and President of Express Music Services
Education and Experience:
Lee Monroe attended Lake Sumter Community College in Leesburg, Florida for 2 years and later went on to attend Florida State University as a Music Major. Presently he is attending the University of Phoenix and majoring in Management and Information Services. Mr. Monroe has been a trumpet player since 1969. He was a member of the All-State High School Jazz Band in 1976. While attending LSCC on a music scholarship he was listed in the 1978 edition of “Who’s Who In America’s Junior Colleges”. He was the lead trumpet player for the FSU Jazz Band from 1979 to 1982. He worked at Walt Disney World and Circus World as a professional trumpet player, as well as various professional venues from 1979 through 1987. In 1987 he had the opportunity to travel to Europe and perform at the Montreux Music Festival in Switzerland and the North Sea Jazz Festival in Den Hague, Netherlands. He has been a full-time professional music copyist since 1982. In 1995 he co-founded Express Music Services, a music production company. One year later his company, EMS, was one of the industry leaders in transforming hand fonts into computer fonts and utilizing these fonts professionally. In 1997 he became the sole owner of EMS.
Professional Highlights:
Mr. Monroe has worked on many high profile projects both as a professional musician and music copyist. He has backed up some big names as a lead trumpet player, among them are: Marvin Stamm, Myron Floren, Phil Wilson, Eddie Daniels, Vinny Dimartino, Toots Thielemans, Nat Adderly and Marcus Roberts.
Lee Monroe has worked on a long list of projects in the capacity of music copyist they include: almost every major stage show, parade or fireworks show done for Walt Disney World since 1982 as well as many projects for Disneyland Paris, Tokyo Disneyland and the stage shows for Disney Cruise Lines on both the Magic and the Wonder. He has lent his music copying talents to the stage show "Jubilee" for Bally’s of Las Vegas, to the International Association of Jazz Educators Concert in 1999, to Electronic Arts (EA) Sports (computer game) and several Superbowl halftime shows. He has done work for Columbia Pictures, CPP Belwin, and Warner Brothers Publishing Companies. His expertise has led to his work for: Arturo Sandoval, Maureen McGovern, Kathy Lee Gifford, Tony Bennett, Matt Cattingub, Carmine Coppola, Rosemarie Clooney, Donny Osmond, Kevin Mahogany, Judie Kuhn, Jodi Benson, Paige O’Hara, Carol Lawrence, Betty Buckley, Peabo Bryson, Susan Egan, Sandi Patti, Enrique Iglesias, Christina Aguilera and Toni Braxton.
Personal Notes:
Lee spends most of his time contemplating how to improve his business and studying to keep his 4.0 GPA (Management/Information Services). His personal goal in life is to have the physical and financial freedom to do whatever he chooses anywhere in the world. He continually aspires to learn as much as possible. He has an insatiable appetite for knowledge that he feeds with books that range from history to mystery to science fiction. In those rare spare moments when he is not racing from little league baseball games to school plays, he enjoys Golfing, Computer Gaming, Scuba Diving, Horseback Riding and Miniature War Gaming. He lists his marriage and two lovely children as his greatest personal achievement. He considers his greatest professional achievement to be the development of Express Music Services.
