Ashley Wells was born in Hahira, Georgia and grew up in Statesboro. He currently resides in Orlando, Florida with his wife Karie.
Professional Copyist and Jazz Bass Player
Education and Experience:
Ashley graduated from Georgia Southern University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Theory and Composition. By this time he had already been working as a Hand Music Copyist for Kendor Publishing since 1982. In 1986 he moved to Central Florida and went on to work for Jensen Music, Warner Brothers, Walt Disney World and Express Music Services. In all, he has been a copyist for over seventeen years.
He began playing his first instrument, the French Horn when he was twelve years of age. Ashley started playing Bass Guitar as well when he entered his Sophomore year of high school. In the years immediately following college Ashley copied almost exclusively, it wasn’t until 2 years later that he started playing Bass again in local gigs. He has played at Chapters Coffee House and with the Altamonte Jazz Ensemble. Since 1992 he has played professionally for Walt Disney World Convention Shows. He has spent the last 6 years playing on and off with the Richie Zellon Group. He has worked with The Platters, Nell Carter, Peabo Bryson, Jodi Benson, Paige O’Hara, Susan Egan, and David Amram. You can find Mr. Wells featured on Eddie Marshall’s “Cookin For Ya” CD, released in 1996 and the group Surface Tension’s 1998 release of “Partially Submerged”.
Professional Highlights:
In 1995 Ashley Wells joined the Express Music team and launched upon a particularly difficult endeavor. Mr. Wells was instrumental in developing the music fonts that enabled EMS to convert to computer music notation software when producing music. His hand font, AshMusic as well as LeeMusic and RussMusic were completed in 1996 and changed the music production process. EMS could now produce more charts in half the amount of time allowing for more flexibility without sacrificing artistic integrity. Thanks to a large extent to his hard work and determination, burning the midnight oil is (almost) a thing of the past. Ashley Wells is the head of Research and Development for Express Music Services.
Personal Notes:
Ash’s aspiration in life is that his wife becomes Regional Vice President of her company and can support him completely. His hobbies are any and all things that have to do with computers.
No. Really?
Mr. Wells works exclusively from his home. He receives and returns his charts as well as corresponds with the office by Email and telephone daily. It’s always a fun reunion when anyone on staff has an “Ash Sighting” as entire months go by without anyone actually seeing him.
